I am Alyssa" Dialogue Color – #666999 Thought Color – #A8A5A6 Name Alyssa Lynn Verinion Nicknames/Aliases Ally Cat Age 17 years old Gender Cis-Female Sexual Orientation Pansexual Academy Year 11th Birth Date September 3rd, 2006 Hair A beautiful auburn red color, halfway down her legs. Completely straight Eyes Heturochromic green and gold Height 5’4” Weight 115 lbs. Body Build Average, slightly curvy Physical Mutations None Notable Scars A scar on her left palm. For some reason it always looks fresh. Piercings and Tattoos None Casual Wear or casual clothing Alyssa favours looser fitting clothing, usually with grey, purple and black somewhere in the colour scheme. It should be noted that she usually wears a grey hoodie that is too big for her a lot of the time. With every outfit she wears, there is a silver chain around her neck, a single silver key hanging from it. Personality Shy and insecure, Alyssa is the sort of person who makes friends with books rather than people. She's socially awkward, with a tendency to stumble over her words when caught unawares, but she has a gentle heart and enjoys helping people when she can. Alyssa is rather easily flustered, especially if given any kind of positive attention, compliments will likely make her blush. She is very much a bookworm as well, and it isn't uncommon to see her buried in a book or carrying one around with her. Of course, there are those times where she will stare off into space, a sad look in her eyes and a weak smile on her lips. Deep down inside she is grieving and occasionally her sorrow will surface, leaving her rather emotional and if someone were to comment on it, it wouldn't be too unexpected for her to perhaps give them a sharp look or ask to be left alone. Occasionally she will also turn as if about to talk to someone, only to stop suddenly at the empty space next to her. Strengths Kindness - Alyssa is not the sort of person to stand by while another person is struggling or suffering. If she cannot directly help them, she will find someone who can. Art - Sketching mostly, although she does dabble in other art forms from time to time. Imagination - With her ability, Alyssa’s active imagination is certainly a bonus. Weaknesses Unfit - Physically Alyssa isn't very fit, when doing exercise she often ends up out of breath. Blood - Or rather, the loss of it. Alyssa’s ability requires blood to activate and the amount she sometimes loses often leaves her dizzy or can cause her to faint. Social situations - Being as shy as she is, Alyssa can't say too much to other people without ending up flustered and stumbling over her words. Fears Forming attachments - After the death of her twin brother, Alyssa doesn't want to form attachments in fear that those people will be taken away from her as well. Of course, this doesn't stop it from happening. Crowds - Or to be specific, large crowds of angry adults. Even before her twin's death she was scared of crowds. Storms - The sound of thunder more than seeing lightning. It is something she has always been at least somewhat fearful, but without her twin to comfort her it has gotten worse. Power Name Advanced: Animal Possession Intermediate: The Chains That Bind Teleportation Beginner: Guardian Angel Runes Power Class Elemental Power Description Power Limitations and Weaknesses The runes only work when written in blood, leaving Alyssa prone to dizzy spells and occasionally passing out. The runes must be used within ten minutes of being written, otherwise they lose their power. A single mistake can see the runes blow up in Alyssa’s face. For some reason it is only the Elder Futhark script that works for the arrays, other runes do not work. While the runes can be used in a variety of ways, they are essentially much weaker versions of other possible abilities. The best results require more runes to be written out, which means that it takes longer and uses more blood. History The Verinion family was a small one. There were no other relatives, at least none that were ever spoken of. It was simply a husband and wife, and their twin son and daughter. They lived in the middle of the European countryside, in a small village that was mostly self-sufficient. With no need for outside help they didn't get much news from the rest of the world either. But when new of the awakened finally reached them there was an even split on those who accepted them, and those who didn't. The family tried their best to keep themselves rather neutral in the whole thing. While the two adults were personally against the awakened, they still wanted their children to come up with their own opinions on the matter. As such, while the pair never encountered any awakened themselves, they did grow up with a healthy interest in magic and fantasy, something which fit well with their active imaginations. Alexander grew to love tarot and would spend hours shuffling his deck and volunteering to do readings for his family and the family's closer friends. Meanwhile Alyssa preferred animals and runes, often be found with her nose buried in a book on them or sketching runes onto little charms that she would then hang up around their home. These interests would later come in useful as by the time the twins were ten, they became awakened themselves. Alexander, with his obsession with tarot would find his readings become more and more accurate and eventually was able to force the futures he read in the cards to unfold. And Alyssa, after accidentally cutting herself and bleeding onto one of the charms she was making found that she could give them power with her blood, controlling things and animals. While the pair knew that their parents were neutral regarding the awakened, they still kept this to themselves, not wanting to push them away. As such their ability went relatively unnoticed for the next three years. At thirteen, the two would find themselves alone. Alexander and Alyssa had been at a library while their parents were at work and came home to the news that their workplace had been burned down and their parents had perished in the fire. Being a small village, the two were allowed to continue living in their home, with various people coming by daily, and often several times a day, to check on them. It was a temporary measure until a permanent home could be found for the two. But when two years passed and their reluctance to leave the small house grew, the decision became permanent. There were fifteen now after all, and were viewed as more sensible than most people their age. So the twins started to be left alone more and more often. Living as they were, the pair were rather content, though there were times when the grief they felt over their parents' deaths would catch up with them and they would end up staring into space. However, despite this they settled into a routine that would see them at school during the week and secretly practicing their ability in the evenings or on the weekends. It was the day before their sixteenth birthdays that it turned sour. The person assigned to check on them at the time was one of those members of the village that disliked the awakened. And the twins had gotten so used to those who favoured the awakened visiting that they had forgotten about this. As such, the man arrived to Alyssa putting the finishing touches to a small runic array and saw small ice crystals form on top of the bloody writing. The man stood still before proclaiming the two as demons and running from the house. Alexander and Alyssa merely stared at one another. It seemed as if their peaceful stay here was over. Quickly the two packed those belongings they needed and the items they treasured before leaving the house and locking the door behind them. They managed to make it to nearly the edge of the village before they were cornered by a group of those villagers who wanted to purge the awakened from the world. Trapped with only one way to go, the two knew that it was unlikely for them to be able to escape from the group. Still, they ran. And then Alyssa tripped and fell. Her brother heard it, quickly rushing back to her and shielded her from the first blow. With a cry for her to run, Alexander did his best to protect his twin as Alyssa scrambled to her feet. She tried to reach out to her brother only for him to push her away and tell her to run. Tears in her eyes, Alyssa did as her brother said, knowing in her heart that it was the last time she would ever see him. An hour later, in the middle of nowhere, Alyssa finally stopped running, sinking to the ground as the felt the bond she shared with Alexander weaken and shatter. Curling into a ball, she cried herself to sleep. When she awoke, it was to white walls and the concerned face of a nurse. Sitting up, she could vaguely hear what was being said, but all she could focus on was the fact that her brother, her twin, was dead. Alyssa felt empty, like half of her had been torn away. By the time she was interacting properly with her surroundings she had been in the hospital for a couple of months and her sixteenth birthday had already passed. With the doctors and nurses having found out about her ability during her sessions with them, they recommended the academy and helped her with signing up. A week later the acceptance letter arrived.
